The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a virtual Parks Citizen Advisory Board Committee meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 6 p.m. The meeting to discuss current park improvements and recreation projects will be conducted via Zoom at https://dekalbcountyga.zoom.us/j/86530929037.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously re-elected District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw as presiding officer and Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson as deputy presiding officer. “I am honored and humbled by the renewed vote of confidence in me that has been demonstrated by my esteemed colleagues,” Commissioner Bradshaw said. “And I will continue to work hard to prove myself worthy of their support.”

DeKalb County will continue its longstanding tradition of celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. by hosting its first food distribution of 2021 alongside an abbreviated program on Jan. 18. The King Day theme for 2021 is “The Urgency of Creating the Beloved Community.”

DeKalb County Cooperative Extension is calling for applications for Fresh on DeK, the DeKalb Mobile Farmers Market, stops for 2021. The deadline to apply is Friday, Feb. 26, 2021. Launched in May 2015, Fresh on DeK has raised awareness about the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption for healthy living by providing fresh, affordable produce and food demonstrations to county residents.

In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 18, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a revised collection schedule. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, resuming normal operating hours on Tuesday, Jan. 19. The Central Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill and Customer Care call center will be closed on Monday, Jan. 18, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 19, during normal operating hours.
