The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for DeKalb County and is predicting two to five inches of rain tonight through Wednesday morning. Because the ground is already saturated, the runoff from these storms could result in sewer overflows and spills.

NBA legends Dikembe Mutombo and Dominique Wilkins are at South DeKalb Mall where hundreds of people are receiving COVID-19 vaccinations during an event sponsored by DeKalb County Government today. Anyone who gets vaccinated will receive a $100 prepaid debit card during the vaccination and testing event on Saturday, Aug. 14. Walk-ups are also welcome.

National Constables and Marshals Association announced the appointment of Chief Marshal William J. Taylor as state director for Georgia, effective Aug. 13, for a two-year term. Headquartered in Shreveport, La., the National Constables and Marshals Association (NCMA) was founded in 1973 and currently has 15 state directors with over 1,000 members.

DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (VRE) is reminding voters that absentee ballots can be requested beginning Monday, Aug. 16, for the November General Election. To request an absentee ballot, DeKalb voters must complete an absentee ballot application, which is available online at DeKalbVotes.com under the Absentee Information tab.

On Tuesday, Aug. 17, DeKalb County and its contractors will repair a leaking 16-inch water line on Peachcrest Road between Maplehurst Drive and Columbia Drive. Work is expected to last approximately four hours, unless unforeseen circumstances arise, that may impact this schedule. Residents and businesses should expect a water outage while the line is replaced on Tuesday, Aug. 17, between 3 and 8 p.m.
