The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners has approved $122,000 to fund a feasibility study to create a DeKalb County Community Land Trust, a critical step toward expanding affordable housing and promoting equitable development across the county. Community land trusts (CLTs) are nonprofit organizations that acquire and steward land for long-term community benefit. By separating ownership of the land from the ownership of homes built on it, CLTs help stabilize neighborhoods, ensure permanent affordability, and prevent displacement.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Interim Police Chief Gregory Padrick joined regional law enforcement leaders at the Atlanta Police Foundation’s annual Crime Is Toast breakfast to honor fallen DeKalb County Police Officer David Rose, whose courage and sacrifice continue to inspire officers and residents across the region. Officer Rose was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart and the Medal of Honor, two of the highest recognitions for valor and heroism in the line of duty. His widow, Mrs. Rose, accepted the awards on his behalf during the ceremony, which was attended by representatives from law enforcement agencies throughout metro Atlanta.

DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs and Park Pride will hold an official ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new playground at Biffle Park, 5221 Biffle Rd. Stone Mountain, GA, at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25. A total of $325,798 was allocated to complete the newly created playground. Contributions were provided in part through Park Pride’s Grantmaking Program, the DeKalb County Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) and the Parks Department to complete the project.

DeKalb VRE Executive Director Keisha Smith encourages voters to get familiar with the early voting dates, locations, and designated drop box sites ahead of early voting. “Every election matter, and every vote counts,” said Smith. “We want every eligible voter in DeKalb County to have the information they need to make a plan to vote this and every election cycle. Whether that means voting early, voting by mail, or casting a ballot on Election Day, our team is here to help ensure that process is easy, secure, and accessible for all.”
