DeKalb County is proud to announce the 3rd Annual Spirit of DeKalb Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating outstanding leaders, innovators, and changemakers in the DeKalb community. The gala will take place on December 13, 2025, at Perimeter Crowne Plaza Ravinia, bringing together distinguished guests, community partners, and supporters for a night of recognition and inspiration. Hosted by Ryan Cameron, award winning radio personality, comedian and philanthropist, and co-sponsored by DeKalb Chamber of Commerce, guests will enjoy a night to remember.

On Tuesday, Nov.18, in a 6-1 vote, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a $45 million development by Sky Harbour, a home-based operator for business aircraft at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK), with no financial appropriation from the county. “I am very sensitive to development at PDK and its impact on the environment and local residents but we will use this project to reduce the major concerns expressed by the local community,” said DeKalb CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson. “I will be forming a community-based friends’ group to work alongside the airport and county to ensure PDK Airport is family friendly with great parks, dining, and engaging experiences that educate and entertain.”

Today, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners in a unanimous vote approved a new five-year contract with American Medical Response (AMR) for emergency ambulance services. The total maximum value of the new contract extension based on performance is $77,773,900. “As we continue to reimagine how EMS is provided in DeKalb County, I am excited at the progress we have made and expect this contract will allow us to better serve our residents,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “We will have a world-class emergency medical service.”

At a press conference this morning, DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, DeKalb County Board of Commissioners, DeKalb County Community Development Department, and the DeKalb County School District, announced initiatives to support families during difficult economic times. “Across the nation, and right here in Dekalb County, families are feeling the effects of a challenging economy,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson. “As costs rise and uncertainty continues, we are responding with compassion, coordination, and action."

The Seminole Road Landfill, and the Central and North Transfer Stations will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, reopening on Friday, Nov. 28, during normal operating hours. The Customer Care call center and administration building will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 27, and Friday Nov. 28, reopening on Monday, Dec. 1, during normal operating hours.
