DeKalb County Cooperative Extension is calling for applications for Fresh on DeK, the DeKalb Mobile Farmers Market, stops for 2024. The applications will be open from Dec. 11, 2023, to Jan. 26, 2024. Launched in May 2015, Fresh on DeK has raised awareness about the importance of fruit and vegetable consumption for healthy living by providing fresh, affordable produce and food demonstrations to county residents.

Trees will be collected during residents’ regularly scheduled sanitation collection service days. To participate, residents must remove all decorations from trees and place them curbside. Tree length must be 7 feet or less. Trees that cannot be trimmed to the required size may be taken to the county-owned Seminole Road Landfill or collected by the Sanitation Division’s Special Collection unit (fees may apply).

In observance of Christmas Day on Monday, Dec. 25, and New Year’s Day on Monday, Jan. 1, sanitation service for residential customers will be based on a revised holiday schedule. The Central Transfer Station, North Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill, Customer Care call center, and Commercial Services will be closed on Monday, Dec. 25, and Monday, Jan. 1, resuming services on Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Tuesday, Jan. 2, during normal operating hours.

Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in partnership with the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County and the DeKalb County School District, presents the 5th Annual Lock-in for Life event to foster male youth development for students ages 13-18. The program provides middle and high schoolers with intense workshops, critical conversations, and positive male interactions, focusing on nonviolence, social skills and behaviors, mental health, and positive peer interactions.
