Today, DeKalb County made history. Less than 60 days into her administration, CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson secured the Board of Commissioner approval for a $4.27 billion infrastructure investment, the largest in DeKalb’s history. This bold initiative, centers on a “10 x 10” (10 percent annual increases over 10 years) water and sewer rate adjustments that will reverse decades of underfunding, strengthen economic development, and elevate DeKalb County from an "F" to a "C" in our water distribution infrastructure performance.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has announced the appointment of Reginald D. Wells as the new Director of Watershed Management, following the retirement of longtime director David Hayes. With more than 25 years of leadership experience in water resource management and infrastructure operations, Wells will lead the county’s efforts to enhance water services, improve infrastructure, and maintain regulatory compliance.

Beginning on Thursday, March 13, 2025, Crestline Dr. will be closed to through traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Crestline Dr. between Crestline Ct. and Lebaron Dr. to facilitate tree removal work on 1756 Crestline Dr, Atlanta, GA 30345. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of tree removal work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host its spring household hazardous waste recycling event on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 8 a.m. – noon, at the Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. During the event, county residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of dangerous household items that are no longer in use. Hazardous materials such as aerosols, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, photo chemicals, paint, paint-related products and artist supplies will be accepted. Paint will be limited to 10 gallons per vehicle.
