Following two separate shooting incidents near a shopping plaza on South Hairston Road and just a week after the senseless murders of 29-year-old Tomika Pullins and her 7-year-old niece, Dior Scott, DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is reaffirming the County’s commitment to both immediate and long-term public safety solutions. While the DeKalb County Police Department continues its investigations and community engagement efforts, the Office of the CEO is focused on deploying innovative resources, strengthening law enforcement infrastructure, and investing in systems designed to deter and prevent violent crime.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has announced that the county’s Equalized Homestead Option Sales Tax (EHOST) credit for 2025 will provide $206.3 million in residential property tax relief for property owners with homestead exemptions. The EHOST credit is included in the proposed resolution to adopt the 2025 millage rates that is being considered by the Board of Commissioners.

DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a finance committee meeting on Mon., June 23, 2025, at 4 p.m., followed by a regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. The meetings will be held at Darro C. DeKalb County has fully committed a $5 million federal grant to assisting low- to moderate-income households by providing no-cost plumbing repairs, known as the DeKalb CARES Plumbing Repair Program. Funded by the U.S. Department of Treasury under the American Rescue Plan Act, this initiative has spent $1.5 million to future applicants in need of plumbing repairs and committed an additional $3.3 million to future applicants in need of plumbing repairs.
