DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson delivered her inaugural Employee State of the County address to more than 1,000 DeKalb County employees and stakeholders. CEO Cochran-Johnson outlined her bold vision for “reimagining DeKalb.” The Employee State of the County was the first of its kind in DeKalb’s history. Employees were given the opportunity to hear directly from CEO Cochran-Johnson about what has been done and what is next for the County.

DeKalb County has taken meaningful action to improve emergency medical services, resulting in faster response times and increased ambulance availability for residents. In February 2024, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a $3.8 million investment to expand DeKalb County Fire Rescue’s (DCFR) ambulance program, adding new units, personnel, and operational support. In addition, the County extended its contract with American Medical Response (AMR), effective January 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

The Atlanta Regional Commission (ARC) has announced that it has awarded $200,000 in Livable Centers Initiative (LCI) grants to DeKalb County for its Kensington Area Master Plan Update. DeKalb County is one of six planning studies across metro Atlanta that were awarded to help communities transform into more walkable, bikeable, live-work-play environments.
