Commissioner Robert Patrick celebrated two trailblazing individuals in DeKalb County by giving his Trailblazer Award to Charlene Fang, a current board member of the DeKalb County Board of Assessors and former chair and vice-chair of the board, and Judge Alvin T. Wong, Chief Judge of DeKalb County State Court, for their remarkable contributions to DeKalb County. He honored them with the District 1, 2024 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Trailblazer Award during the Board of Commissioners' regular business meeting on May 28, 2024.

The DeKalb County Police Department will host a Virtual Mental Health Forum on Friday, May 31, 2024, at 5 p.m. via Zoom, at https://dekalbcountyga.zoom.us/j/85940664757. The goal of the mental health forum is to encourage community members to ask questions and learn from a panel of experts who will present behavioral and mental health resources available in DeKalb County.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, Commissioner Michelle Long Spears and Atlanta-based artist Jermaine Clark will unveil a new mural on Saturday, June 1, at 10 a.m. at Mason Mill Park, 1346 McConnell Drive, Decatur, Ga. The event will take place under the bridge on the South Peachtree Creek Trail.

In observance of Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will run one day late. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday, May 27. The Customer Care call center, Central Transfer Station and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Monday, May 27, reopening on Tuesday, May 28, during normal operating hours.

The DeKalb Human Services Department’s Office of Youth Services is accepting applications for Girls’ Clubhouse, a program designed to expose DeKalb County female youth to personal, social, and professional development training skills they can use throughout their lives.
