DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host lunch and learn Family and Consumer Sciences virtual classes for free. The “Preparing For the Holidays: Your Fiscal Wellness” class will be on October 14 at 11:30 a.m. This class will discuss basic financial planning for the upcoming holiday season, different types of budgets, and tips on saving.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners are sending 5,000 boxes of food and emergency supplies to Augusta, Ga., to support the region’s Hurricane Helene recovery efforts. The emergency assistance results from a mutual aid agreement signed by CEO Thurmond and Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson on Oct. 2. “DeKalb County is honored to support Mayor Johnson and our neighbors in Augusta who are struggling to recover from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene,” CEO Thurmond said.

(ATLANTA) – The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD), the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH), in coordination with the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA/HS) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), continue to monitor air quality levels as weather patterns change throughout the Atlanta metro area through the week. EPA, Georgia EPD, and local officials will have the Trace Atmospheric Gas Analyzer (TAGA), which is a self-contained mobile laboratory capable of real-time monitoring of outdoor air or emissions.

The DeKalb County Long Range Planning Division will hold the second public meeting to discuss the new PathLink initiative Wednesday, October 2, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually and attendees are encouraged to register here. Those who register will also receive a recording of the meeting. The community is invited to attend and provide input on the proposed wayfinding sign locations and hear about more project updates, including safety improvements.
