Marbut Road between Lithonia Industrial Blvd. and South Stone Mountain Lithonia Road, will be closed to through-traffic Tuesday, December 26 to Friday, January 26 to facilitate water and sewer line repair at 6720 Marbut Road, Lithonia, Ga. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

In 2023, DeKalb County implemented several initiatives designed to strengthen the healthcare service delivery network for its residents. “We are already seeing successes from these enhancements,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “Fewer patients are being turned away. More patients are being treated and discharged and are receiving better health outcomes because of these innovative initiatives.”

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety announced that the DeKalb County Police Department received a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (H.E.A.T.) grant. The H.E.A.T. grant award totals $ 261,750.34. The DeKalb County Police Department’s H.E.A.T. Unit will use the grant to develop and implement strategies to reduce local traffic crashes due to aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open five warming centers for residents on Dec. 17-21, starting at 8 p.m. each night to use. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

In the Dec. 11, DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections (BRE) meeting, the BRE certified results of the Dec. 5, 2023, general municipal runoff. More than 9,200 people, amounting to 12 percent of the county’s active and eligible voters, participated in the year’s final election. It covered five races spanning from a position on the Atlanta Board of Education to the mayor of Brookhaven and city council posts in Brookhaven, Doraville, and Stonecrest.
