Common Residential Violations

Unregistered or Inoperable Vehicles

Must be stored inside a garage or enclosed building, and not visible from outside.

Parking on Unpaved Surfaces

All vehicles must be parked on paved surfaces. Parking on lawns or landscaped areas is strictly prohibited.

No Commercial Vehicle Parking in Residential Areas
It is unlawful to park business vehicles such as:

  • Vans, limos, taxis
  • Tow trucks, box trucks, flatbeds
  • Semi-tractor cabs

Exceptions: temporary parking for loading/unloading, contractor services, farming, or construction.

Major Vehicle Repairs

Major vehicle repairs are not allowed outdoors on private property or public streets. Repairs must be done inside a garage, enclosed structure, or at a licensed auto facility building (only allowed outdoors in M Zoning District).

Common Commercial Property Violations

Business License Requirements

All businesses must:

  • Register with DeKalb County
  • Pay occupational tax and fees
  • Display valid licenses in plain view
  • Transient business owners must carry valid registration and license and show it upon request.
Signage Compliance

Window Signs

May not exceed 30% of total window area.

Dilapidated & Neglected Signs

Signs must be neat and intact. Violations include:

  • Rust, holes, or missing parts
  • Broken or bent structure
  • Faded/flaking paint
  • Non-working lights/mechanics
  • Missing letters

Abandoned Signs

Signs are considered abandoned after 6+ months of business inactivity.

Dumpsters & Trash Compactors

Must be enclosed by opaque fencing or walls at least 6 feet tall.

Illegal Tire Dumping

It is unlawful to dump or allow dumping of scrap tires on any property or waterways in DeKalb County.

Litter

Businesses must remain clean and litter-free to support a healthy community environment.
