The ‘Good Neighbor Express’ emergency assistance to be delivered Oct. 4
DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners are sending 5,000 boxes of food and emergency supplies to Augusta, Ga., to support the region’s Hurricane Helene recovery efforts.
The emergency assistance results from a mutual aid agreement signed by CEO Thurmond and Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson on Oct. 2.
“DeKalb County is honored to support Mayor Johnson and our neighbors in Augusta who are struggling to recover from the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene,” CEO Thurmond said.
The Good Neighbor Express will travel Friday, Oct. 4, to Augusta to deliver 5,000 boxes containing Georgia-grown fruits, vegetables and produce that can be consumed without cooking, sanitizers, masks and COVID-19 tests.
“We are grateful to DeKalb County which has, by their words and deeds, demonstrated that they are our good neighbors,” Mayor Johnson said. “DeKalb’s generosity will never be forgotten.”
The boxes will be distributed at the following locations:
- Good Shepherd Baptist, 1714 Olive Rd., Augusta, GA 30904
