The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) applied for and was selected by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to participate in the National Public Safety Partnership program (PSP). The DOJ will provide the DKPD intensive training and technical assistance in the areas of gun violence, criminal justice collaboration, investigations, constitutional policing, community engagement, federal partnerships, crime analysis, and technology to identify strategies that target gun, drug, and gang violence.
“While violent crimes rates are steadily decreasing year to year, PSP has a proven track record of helping sites lower crime rates and improve the quality of life for community members and we are excited to work with them to better serve our citizens,” said Police Chief Mirtha V. Ramos.
Over the next three years, DKPD and Public Safety Partnership program will develop a collaborative network to gain better insight into the unique violent crime challenges in DeKalb County and determine system-wide approaches to implement crime reduction strategies and enhance public safety.
