On Saturday, April 5, at approximately 7:22 a.m., a DeKalb County police officer was injured in a crash on East Ponce de Leon Ave. between Rays Road and Hambrick Road. A third vehicle was involved. Investigators determined an eastbound driver tried to pass another vehicle by illegally going over a double-yellow line.
In the process, investigators believe the at-fault driver hit the vehicle it was trying to pass, sending it into a tree. Then investigators say the at-fault driver hit the westbound DKPD officer head-on.
The officer, as well as two children, were taken to local hospitals for serious but non-life-threatening injuries. All patients were listed in stable condition.
The investigation is ongoing.
