
District 4 Commissioner Chakira Johnson, who assumed office on January 1, 2025, will host the first of her three quarterly Community Connection breakfast meetings for 2025. The event will take place at the East Central DeKalb Community & Senior Center on Saturday, April 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 4885 Elam Road, Stone Mountain, GA 30083. This meeting is designed to engage with constituents, provide important updates, and offer an opportunity for constituents to ask questions and share their concerns.
Commissioner Johnson, a Georgia Tech graduate and licensed engineer with over 20 years of experience in the private sector and local government, brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role. She holds engineering licenses in three states, including Georgia, and has served on the Stone Mountain City Council for 16 years, including 12 years as mayor pro tem. With her background in civil engineering, Commissioner Johnson is committed to leveraging her expertise to improve the lives of DeKalb County residents.
At the meeting, Commissioner Johnson will provide updates on county matters and outline her 2025 goals for District 4, share her vision for the year ahead and discuss how her office plans to address key issues facing the community.
A highlight of the event will be a keynote address by Maria Houser, DeKalb County's Director of Environmental Compliance, Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and Consent Decree. Houser, who serves as the county's first Director of Environmental Compliance, will discuss her leadership in overseeing the $1.5 billion sanitary sewer system improvements required by the Consent Decree – an essential initiative for maintaining the county's infrastructure and environmental health.
In addition to Ms. Houser’s presentation, representatives from several DeKalb County service departments, including Sanitation, Roads & Drainage, Law Enforcement, and Code Compliance, will be on hand to provide updates and answer questions from the community.
Breakfast will be served until supplies run out. Constituents are encouraged to attend, learn more about ongoing projects, and engage in meaningful discussions with local leaders.
