Recently, DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson hosted her first annual Mayors Retreat, held at Emory University’s Miller-Ward Alumni House.

The event was a full day working session, bringing together city leaders across DeKalb  to focus on strategy, collaboration and shared goals.

A diverse group of twelve people pose on a staircase, all smiling warmly. The setting is formal, with wooden railings and large windows.

Mayors from each municipality were given the opportunity to present their top three priorities and engage in targeted discussions around housing, infrastructure, public safety, economic development, mental health and more.

Throughout the day, mayors and leaders highlighted overlapping needs and emerging opportunities, including:

•    Affordable and workforce housing development
•    Infrastructure investment - roads, sewer, water, and stormwater systems
•    Transit planning and improved regional mobility
•    Support for unsheltered residents and expansion of mental health services
•    Economic revitalization and downtown development
•    Public safety initiatives, including technology upgrades and fire/EMS service delivery
•    Youth engagement, job creation, and green space expansion

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson’s visionary leadership continues to inspire progress toward a better DeKalb. “When we align our goals, we can deliver more meaningful results for the people we serve,” said CEO Cochran-Johnson during closing remarks.

Presentations were also given by DeKalb County Community Development, DeKalb County Fire Rescue, Dekalb County Watershed Management, Frontline Response, and Decide DeKalb Development Authority.
