On Saturday, July 16, Commissioner Steve Bradshaw, in partnership with Clarkston Mayor Beverly Burks, and DeKalb School District Board Chairwoman Vickie Turner and board member Dr. Joyce Morley and, will host the 2nd Annual Back-to-School event with giveaways, health screenings and a $100 gift card for individuals who receive a COVID-19 vaccination while supplies last.

“I am thrilled to once again be able to provide necessary back-to-school supplies to DeKalb students,” Commissioner Bradshaw said. “Many DeKalb families are dealing with the increasing costs of almost everything. I, along with my cohosts and the sponsors and partners that have signed on to this year’s event, have one focus and that is giving much-needed school supplies and other resources to help children and families during these difficult times.”

Commissioner Bradshaw has arranged for several resources, including free car seats; vision, hearing, and dental screenings; school vaccines; hypertension and diabetic screenings; financial coaching; and other resources.

Event will be held at Clarkston First Baptist Church, located at 3999 Church Street, Clarkston.

The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Last year’s event gave away nearly 500 backpacks. Commissioner Bradshaw plans to distribute 1,000 backpacks on Saturday.

“I’d like to give special thanks to my friends Pastor Karl D. Moore and First Lady Angela Moore because they have once again opened up the church campus for this year’s event,” Commissioner Bradshaw said.

“They have also been instrumental in planning for the event, too.”

The event is open to all DeKalb County residents.

“I look forward to seeing DeKalb kiddos and parents on Saturday for a fun-filled event,” said Commissioner Bradshaw.”
