Commissioner Robert Patrick has joined forces for a second time with the recently established Alpha Kappa Alpha (AKA) Sorority, Inc. chapter to organize a complimentary paper-shredding event in District 1.

A group of smiling people stands under a pink and green tent with "A Legacy of Sisterhood Since 1908" written on it. A table holds brochures and a framed picture. The background features trees and a building, suggesting an outdoor event.

The winter shredding event is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 2, at Pleasantdale Park, located at 3650 Pleasantdale Rd., from 8 am to noon or until the truck reaches capacity. All DeKalb residents are welcome to attend this free event.

The collaboration between Commissioner Patrick's office and the members of the Alpha Beta Lambda Omega Chapter extends an invitation to District 1 residents and to all DeKalb County residents to participate in the disposal of unwanted loose papers, files, and documents at Pleasantdale Park, just in time for last-minute holiday cleaning. Additionally, attendees are encouraged to demonstrate support for local food pantries by bringing a minimum of two non-perishable canned food items.

This marks the second shredding event and collaboration between the chapter and Commissioner Patrick under their “Enhance Our Environment” program, one of the organization's four international program initiatives. The first shredding event was held in the Spring 2023.
