Commissioner Robert Patrick is thrilled to invite the media and the public to the inaugural District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run, a benefit race supporting the DeKalb County Animal Services. This exciting event will take place on Sunday, September 1, 2024, at Mercer University, located at 2930 Flowers Rd. S, Atlanta, GA 30341. The festivities will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The 5K Fur Run is a unique opportunity for community members to come together, enjoy a run or walk, and make a positive impact on the lives of animals in need. Participants are encouraged to bring their pets, though pets are not required to join in the race. Proceeds from the event will go directly to the DeKalb County Animal Services, supporting their mission to provide care and find homes for abandoned and homeless pets.

Commissioner Robert Patrick will be present to kick off the event and highlight the importance of supporting the DeKalb County Animal Services. "This race is not just a great event for our community; it's a wonderful cause that raises awareness of the needs of our animal shelter," said Commissioner Patrick. "We also want to promote responsible pet ownership through this event, encouraging everyone to care for their pets and support our shelter."

The event will start with an opening ceremony at 7:30 a.m., followed by an instructor-led warm-up session, and then the race will begin. An awards ceremony for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will follow.
