Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open the following four warming centers for residents on each night Thursday, Dec. 5, through Saturday, Dec. 7, starting at 8 p.m. Frontline Response International has been contracted to serve individuals who need assistance during extreme weather conditions. Unlike DeKalb’s traditional warming centers, hot meals, beds, and case management services are centralized at Frontline. DeKalb offers transportation services from all its warming centers to Frontline for individuals who wish to take advantage of those centralized services.

Unofficial and incomplete runoff election results were announced by DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) following the Dec. 3 contest for DeKalb County Commissioner District 3, DeKalb County Commissioner Super District 7, Atlanta City Council Post 3 (At-Large) and Doraville City Council District 1 – Post 2. Current unofficial and incomplete election results are posted at www.DeKalbVotes.com under the elections results tab.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold the First Annual Lantern Festival and Parade on Saturday, Dec. 14, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm, 1185 Rock Chapel Rd., Lithonia, Ga. This free event is for all ages to enjoy an evening of lights and laughter. The festival will feature music, a s'mores station, campfire cooking, garden tours, tasty beverages, and a Lantern Parade through the park. Participants are encouraged to bring family and friends to light up the park with radiant lanterns and create unforgettable experiences to share.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a Winter Break Camp Dec. 23 - 24, Dec. 26 - 27, Dec. 30 - 31 and Jan. 2 - 3 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the camp is $10 per day for children ages 5-13. Each participant must provide his or her own breakfast, lunch and snacks. To register, visit www.dekalbcountyga.gov/parks and click the “Register Online” button.

N. Carter Road, between Forrest Boulevard and Chester Way, will experience a full road closure through Friday, December 20 to facilitate a watermain replacement at 940 N. Carter Road, Decatur, Ga. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.
