Church Street, between East Ponce de Leon Avenue and Erskine Road, will be closed to through-traffic from 6 a.m., Tuesday, Feb. 9, to 9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 11, for a CSX surfacing project in Clarkston, Ga. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will receive $145,000 for capital improvements to three neighborhood parks, on behalf of its Friends of the Park partners. The Park Pride’s Grant Program awards funding to community groups seeking to revitalize their neighborhood parks. Contributions were provided in part through Park Pride’s Community Building by The Home Depot Foundation.

On Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021, Commissioner Mereda Davis Johnson will recognize National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day by hosting a virtual panel discussion aimed at increasing HIV/AIDS awareness and education in DeKalb County. The event will be streamed on DCTV and Commissioner Davis Johnson’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/meredadjohnson) for the public to view.

Recently, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to designate a location for the future home of a memorial honoring Congressman John Lewis. The former site of the Lost Cause obelisk monument outside of the DeKalb History Center in Decatur was selected as the future site of the memorial honoring Congressman John Lewis.
