DeKalb County is making recreation centers and libraries throughout the county available as cooling centers Friday, Saturday and Sunday due to a heat advisory. As defined by the National Weather Service's Peachtree City Forecast Office, a heat advisory is issued when “feels like” temperatures are expected to reach or be greater than 103 degrees, or when the actual air temperature is expected to be at 105 degrees or greater.

Due to the county’s observance of Independence Day on Tuesday, July 4, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a revised schedule. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4, resuming normal operating hours on Wednesday, July 5. The Customer Care call center, administration building, Central Transfer Station and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Tuesday, July 4, reopening on Wednesday, July 5, during normal operating hours.

Beginning July 1, DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) will welcome a new board member and appoint new officers during the July 20 regularly scheduled board meeting. Board members Susan Motter (D), Nancy Jester (R), Anthony Lewis (R) and Karli Swift (at-large) have been reappointed to serve two-year terms.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) has released the 2023 Drinking Water Quality Report, also referred to as a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR). DWM continues to surpass all federal and state drinking water quality standards, providing DeKalb County customers with high-quality drinking water.

DeKalb County District 2 and 6 commissioners invite the community to join them to discuss the proposed Brookhaven annexation. Residents are urged attend a series of community meetings to discuss the proposed annexation of neighborhoods (refer to the map for specific neighborhoods) into the City of Brookhaven. The annexation petition, which has reportedly passed the 60 percent threshold required to proceed, was received by the county last week.
