DeKalb County Encourages Voters to Verify Registration Information Through Official Election Sources, Remain Mindful of Third-Party Mailings

As preparations continue for the Nov. 3 General Election, DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) is encouraging residents to verify their voter registration information through official election sources before responding to voter registration mailings they may receive from third-party organizations. 

In the coming weeks and months, many DeKalb County residents may receive voter registration applications or election-related mailings from organizations that are not affiliated with DeKalb VRE or the Georgia Secretary of State's Office. Officials note that while some of these mailings may contain official State of Georgia voter registration applications, the mailings themselves are independently created and distributed. 

The Georgia Secretary of State's Office has recently reported receiving numerous reports of voter registration mailers being sent to deceased Georgians, raising questions and confusion among some voters. In response, and as part of its ongoing commitment to voter awareness and education, DeKalb Voter Registration and Elections (VRE) will soon launch a public awareness initiative designed to help residents distinguish between official election communications and third-party outreach while ensuring voters have access to accurate, timely, and reliable election information. 

"Every eligible voter deserves access to accurate and trusted election information," said DeKalb VRE Executive Director Keisha L. Smith. "Our office remains the official source for voter registration information, election deadlines, polling locations, and voting resources. Before completing or submitting a voter registration application received in the mail, we encourage residents to verify their registration status with our office to determine whether any action is necessary." 

In recent weeks, election officials have received reports statewide that some third-party mailings have been sent using outdated mailing lists, including mail sent to individuals who are deceased or who may already be registered at their current address. As a result, voters who are already registered may receive applications unnecessarily.

Know Before You Vote 

Before responding to any voter registration mailing, DeKalb VRE encourages residents to: 

• Verify your voter registration status through DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections or the Georgia Secretary of State's My Voter Page. 
• Contact DeKalb VRE at 404-298-4020 if you have questions about your registration status or whether you need to submit a new voter registration application. 
• Visit www.dekalbvotes.com for official election information, voter resources, important deadlines, polling place information, and election updates. 
• Exercise caution before providing personal information to unfamiliar organizations or websites. • If you are already registered at your current address, no additional action is required. 
• The voter registration deadline for the Nov. 3, General Election is Monday, October 5, 2026. 

As part of this public education effort, DeKalb VRE will share voter awareness information through its website, social media platforms, digital newsletters, and other community outreach channels throughout the election season.
