DeKalb Firefighters Kick Off 37th Annual “Give Burns the Boot” Campaign

DeKalb County Fire Rescue (DCFR) firefighters will take to the community Sept. 13–27 for the 37th annual “Give Burns the Boot” campaign, raising funds to support the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation (GFBF) and its mission to assist burn survivors and promote burn prevention and education throughout Georgia.

During the two-week campaign, residents can expect to see DeKalb firefighters at shopping centers, businesses and other locations throughout the county collecting donations. Community members are encouraged to contribute and help continue a tradition that began with DeKalb firefighters more than four decades ago.

The Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation was founded in 1982 by a group of DeKalb County firefighters and has since grown into a statewide organization serving Georgians impacted by burn injuries. In 1990, the “Give Burns the Boot” campaign was launched to further support the foundation’s work.

Since the campaign began, firefighters have collected more than $18 million in support of the foundation and the individuals and families it serves.

“For 37 years, Give Burns the Boot has demonstrated the compassion and commitment firefighters have for the communities we serve,” said Chief Melvin Carter. “Every donation, no matter the amount, helps support burn survivors and strengthens efforts to prevent devastating burn injuries. We encourage DeKalb County residents to join us in making this year’s campaign another success.”

Residents who see DCFR firefighters participating in the campaign between Sept. 13 and Sept. 27 are encouraged to give.
