DeKalb County Cooling Centers Are Available for Cooling During Extreme Heat

In response to continued high temperatures, DeKalb County, in partnership with local service providers, is making cooling centers available to assist vulnerable residents seeking relief from the extreme heat.

County officials encourage seniors, unhoused individuals, and residents without adequate cooling to take advantage of these locations during operating hours.

The following cooling centers are currently available and open as indicated: 

Cooling Centers:

• South DeKalb Day Center at New Life Community Alliance – 3592 Flat Shoals Rd., Decatur GA 30034.  
• Frontline Response – 2585 Gresham Rd., Atlanta, GA 30316
• Peace Baptist Church Annex – 3999 Covington Highway, Decatur, GA 30032
• Golden Door Event Center – 2944 Ember Drive, Decatur, GA 30034

Operating Schedule:

• All four centers will be open Friday and Saturday, August 14, and August 15, 2026.
• Frontline Response will be the only center open on Sunday, August 16, 2026.
• All four centers will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, August 17, 18, 19,  2026. 

Transportation will be provided by DeKalb’s FAST Trac Transportation system. Group pickups can be arranged by calling 404-334-3610. 

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles.
