This weekend DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will launch her annual litter initiative in which volunteers will clean up several stretches of heavily-trafficked roadways. The DeKalb County District 7 Corridor Cleanup Initiative will kick off Saturday, April 10, at 9 a.m. and will focus on cleaning up Panola Road, between Covington Highway and Thompson Mill Road. Volunteers are asked to meet at 2695 Panola Road, Stonecrest, GA 30058.

DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host “April Gardening” virtual classes for free. The “Landscape Tree 101" class will be on April 15, 6 to 7 p.m. The “Green Living" class will be on April 22, 6 to 7 p.m. The “Container Gardening" class will be on April 28, 6 to 7 p.m.

On April 12, two westbound lanes on DeKalb Industrial Way at Lawrenceville Highway will be closed from Monday night at 9 p.m. to Wednesday, April 14 at 9 p.m., while crews work to decommission an old water line which was recently replaced with a new larger line. Crews will also pave the road. This section of DeKalb Industrial Way will reopen at 9 p.m., Wednesday, April 14.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs and the Arabia Mountain Heritage Area Alliance encourage visitors to enjoy the springtime at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve and to park in additional designated areas. When visiting the Davidson- Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve, located 3787 Klondike Rd, Stonecrest, GA 30038, patrons are encouraged to “Leave No Trace” during trips to the nature preserve by treading lightly and staying on the bare granite.
