Patrick Bailey is originally from the Kirkwood Community located in Atlanta, DeKalb County, Georgia. He attended and graduated from Joseph C. Charles Murphy High School, in theAtlanta School System, which is now known as Alonzo T. Crimm High School since 1988.
Bailey is a graduate of Troy State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in General Business/Finance, and joined the DeKalb County Police Department in 1996. As a DeKalb Police Officer, he served in the following areas:
DeKalb County Police Department, 1996-2002
- Uniform Patrol Officer, Center Precinct
- Uniform Division, COBRA Unit-primary responsibility was street level investigations in to narcotics activity, prostitution, and targeted areas of increase criminal activity at the direction of the Precinct Commander and in assisting Criminal Investigation Division in locating Wanted Aggravated Felony Suspects
- Criminal Investigative Division, Homicide/Robbery Detective- Investigated major crimes against persons which included Homicide, Aggravated Assault, Aggravated Battery, Stalking, Battery, Simple Assault, Armed Robbery, and Robbery by Force
- Office of the Chief of Police- Conducted investigations into allegations of misconduct of sworn officers and Public Safety Employees in DeKalb County
DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office, 2003-present
- Transferred to the DeKalb County Medical Examiner’s Office in August 2003 as a Forensic Death Investigator conducting investigations into all aspects of deaths reported in DeKalb County
- Promoted to Forensic Services Manager in 2006, reorganized the departmental procurement system to identify specific needs of each division, and supervised the maintenance of the Medical Examiner’s Office Facility.
- Beginning in 2007, served as Chief Investigator and managed 1,600 to 1,800 reported deaths per year, including supervision of the Forensic Death Investigation Division.
- Currently in serves as the Interim Director of the Medical Examiner’s Office Overseeing day to day operations of the Medical Examiner’s office.
