Chief Information Officer / Director of Innovation and Technology - William Jones

 

William Jones, a DeKalb County resident for over 30 years, has been a leader in technological innovation since 1997. His 28-year career spans state and federal agencies, as well as private institutions, including the Georgia Department of Revenue, Georgia Department of Labor, Georgia State Board of Workers' Compensation, Mythics, Oracle Corporation, and classified federal systems.  

At the Georgia Department of Revenue, William introduced the state's first Oracle Exadata system, a modern mainframe solution that consolidated multiple servers into a single, high-performance platform. This innovation enhanced the reliability and stability of tax applications, improving processing performance by more than 50% and positioning Georgia in the top 5% of states using the integrated tax system application Gen Tax.  

During his tenure with classified federal systems with combined budgets exceeding $4.4 trillion dollars, William managed a team of 50 IT professionals, overseeing the security and integrity of sensitive financial data for millions of citizens. His responsibilities included implementing robust cybersecurity measures, ensuring compliance with federal regulations, and safeguarding personal information against emerging threats.  

Prior to joining Oracle Corporation, William co-managed teams of consultants for Mythics, an award-winning Oracle systems integrator and consulting firm. He led teams of 15 consultants, delivering solutions to banks, and state, federal, and local government agencies.  

William holds several prestigious certifications, including CISSP, CISA, CGEIT, and Security+. His expertise spans IT operations, governance, auditing, project management, architecture, cybersecurity, data management, and cloud services. This diverse skill set underscores his proven track record of effective technology leadership across various industries.  

As a committed community member, William leverages his extensive experience to enhance DeKalb County's technological infrastructure. His leadership focuses on implementing secure, efficient, and innovative solutions that directly benefit residents, ensuring the county remains at the forefront of delivering world-class services through technology.  

Under his guidance, DeKalb County's Department of Innovation and Technology is dedicated to providing convenient access to county services and information through upgraded web interfaces, enhanced security measures, and increased transparency. This includes the development of user-friendly portals that place information at residents' fingertips. The department's commitment to innovation has been nationally recognized, achieving a No. 2 ranking in the nation for its innovative use of technology, with aspirations to implement next-level strategies to attain the top position.
