Department Directors (Alison Weissinger)

Weissinger_Alison.jpgAlison Weissinger was named director of the DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) in 2011, and oversees all activities of 22 DeKalb County branch libraries and an administrative center. Weissinger also works closely with the DeKalb Library Foundation and the Georgia Center for the Book program. The Georgia Center for the Book brings more than 100 author programs a year to DeKalb County, making DCPL the largest presenter of literary programs in the southeastern United States. 

Weissinger is a seasoned library veteran. She joined DeKalb County Public Library in 1997 as a youth services librarian.  Additionally, Weissinger has served as a branch manager at several branches, including the Decatur Library, the county's main library branch.  Before being appointed director, Weissinger served as the system's adult services coordinator, directing adult programming, literacy and outreach services and the library's website.

Originally from California, Weissinger graduated from the University of California at Davis with a BA in German Literature. She received her Master’s Degree in Library Science from Florida State University. She serves on the Board of Directors for the Decatur Book Festival and is a member of the Decatur Rotary Club.

The library system’s collection holds close to one million items for in-house use or checkout, and provides 24/7 home and office access to a vast collection of digital content, including magazine and newspaper databases, downloadable eBooks and eAudiobooks.
