The DeKalb County Office of Aging (OOA) was established in 1999 to serve the County’s growing and diverse senior citizen population. The Office of Aging provides DeKalb seniors with resources and services that enrich their lives and encourage them to engage in healthy activities, manage their wellness, and become socially involved. As a designated County-Based Aging Program/Nutrition Service Provider (CBA/NSP), we either directly provide or contract with other nonprofit or government agencies to provide the following services |

With an emphasis on home and community-based services that support independent living, we are committed to raising awareness about issues facing older adults, and helping all individuals thrive in communities of their choice for as long as possible. Information and Referral Services |

The DeKalb County Office of Aging provides information and referral assistance to seniors 60 years and older. We also provide support to seniors’ family members or caregivers. Our Information & Referral (I&R) Specialists provide information to callers about services obtained through DeKalb County Office of Aging or other agencies. Neighborhood Senior Centers |

The DeKalb County Office of Aging is responsible for the management of four senior centers that located in neighborhoods throughout DeKalb County. These centers are owned by DeKalb County Government and governed by state and federal rules that are enforced by the Georgia Department of Aging Services. Our neighborhood senior centers offer a variety of services for seniors. Participants can receive nutrition education and counseling, opportunities to join health and wellness classes, arts and crafts classes, special events, technology classes and group trips. The DeKalb County Office of Aging is committed to providing great services to the seniors of DeKalb County. We want seniors to continue having new experiences, learning new things, and building a great network of friends. We believe in supporting these goals through: Communication– the provision of clear communication to seniors, the public, and caregivers regarding referrals and information about the services we provide. Collaboration– the establishment and maintenance of effective collaborations with various organizations (public and private) which are committed to active aging. Coordination– the coordination of exceptional service delivery to all senior center members and seniors in the community. |

Congregate MealsSeniors may receive hot and nutritious lunch meals M-F through participation in our congregate meal programs at one of our four neighborhood senior centers. The meals are provided free of cost to seniors who qualify. You must be at least 60-year-old, a resident of DeKalb County and actively attending one of the neighborhood senior centers. In-home ServicesIn-home services assist homebound seniors with ADLs (Activities of Daily living) which range from bathroom assistance, bathing, and very light housekeeping. The In-Home Services program helps seniors to age in place by providing homemaking, personal care, and respite for in the home. The homemaking service provides light housekeeping in the senior’s living space to help them maintain a clean, safe, and healthy environment. Personal care services include bathing, grooming and other personal hygiene activities. Respite service provides an aide to stay with a senior that needs supervision, while the caregiver can receive support and the ability to run errands and conduct other activities outside of the home. Adult DaycareThe DeKalb County Office of Aging has a contracted Adult Day Program with a local provider. Due to the current COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, all Adult Day Program activities are placed on hold until further notice. Please contact the DeKalb Senior Link Line at (770) 322-2950 and this website to see updates. Adult Day participants receive social, physical, and cognitive stimulating activities as well as nutritious meals and snacks. Memory programming, recreational outings and health services monitoring is provided.
