Before joining the DeKalb County Police Department, Chief Conroy grew up in DeKalb County, graduating from Peachtree High School. He attended the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University. He is a graduate of the Southern Police Institute at the University of Louisville and the Police Executive Research Forum’s Senior Management Institute for Police in Boston, Massachusetts. He is currently pursuing his Master’s Degree at Waldorf University.

During his 26 years with the DeKalb County Police Department, Chief Conroy has worked a wide variety of assignments, including assignments in the Uniform Division, North Precinct, Tucker Precinct, Homicide Unit, and Sex Crimes Unit in the Criminal Investigations Division. He has served as the Commander of several areas including the North Precinct, Youth and Sex Crimes Section, Crime Analysis and Research Section, Information Services Division, E911 Director, Chief of Staff, and as the Assistant Chief over the Support Services Division. Chief Conroy has served as the DeKalb County Chief of Police since December 2013.

Chief Conroy is also very active outside the police department, serving on the executive boards of several organizations, including the Metro Atlanta Police Emerald Society, the Gold Shield Foundation of Metro Atlanta, and DeKalb County Police Athletic League Plus, Inc.
