The mission of the Department's community outreach programs is to strengthen our relationships with the citizens and business owners we serve, provide highly skilled behavioral health crisis alternatives to arrest, and create innovative and programs for DeKalb County children to interact with police officers in a positive, supportive environment. | |||||||
MOBILE CRISIS UNIT (MCU) | |||||||
MCU consists of officers who are partnered with licensed professional clinicians trained by the DeKalb Crisis Center. MCU responds to citizens who may be experiencing a behavioral health crisis, to provide care options as an alternative to incarceration.

COMMUNITY POLICING UNIT (CPU) | |||||||
CPU works to bridge the relationship between the Department, communities, civic groups, faith-based organizations and schools. CPU builds partnerships with the community by assisting with and hosting communal events.
PAL PLUS Unit provides educational, recreational, and vocational opportunities for DeKalb County youth in efforts to steer them from crime. PAL PLUS also engages children in positive situations with police officers to improve the police-community relationship.

The Department began the VIPs program in the summer of 2011 with aspirations of offering residents, business owners, and business volunteers an opportunity to volunteer within the Police Department by assisting with various non-confrontational and administrative-type duties.
