Office of Youth Services

The DeKalb Office of Youth Services provides and coordinates a continuum of programs and initiatives for youth. These programs expose youth to leadership development, mentorship, arts, entertainment, technology, problem solving, violence prevention, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. Our program designs are rooted in the principals of human development that define our social state of being.

DeKalb Youth Services seeks to provide balanced programs and services to deter youth from going down a harmful path and to counteract delinquency, reduce recidivism, and maximize the prospects for youth to become positive, responsible citizens through strategic youth programs and partnerships.

The Office of Youth Services implementation includes developing new initiatives and strengthening existing programs to ensure the development of well-rounded children and youth in the Four High Priority Areas of: Youth Mental Health and Wellness, Safety and Risky Behavior, Education, and Youth Homelessness and Economic Wellbeing.

DeKalb children and youth are the next generation, the students, the graduates, and the new members of the workforce of tomorrow. Out of DeKalb’s population, our youth are:

• Just over 51,000 children under age 5
• Approximately 175,000 young people under 18
• Almost 64,000 young adults aged 18-24
