FAQs – ADDRESSING, PLAT

1. CAN I CHANGE MY PROPERTY ADDRESS IF I THINK IT’S INCORRECT? 

A: No, all addresses are assigned by our GIS addressing coordinators. Addresses must meet the NENA/URISA (National Emergency Number Association/Urban & Regional Information Systems Association) standards of addressing. If you have any questions please contact our Addressing Team (addressingteam@dekalbcountyga.gov).

 

 

2. HOW CAN I VERIFY IF AN ADDRESS EXISTS IN THE GIS SYSTEM?

A: Visit DeKalb Address Portal () and enter the street number, street name, type (example: “178 Sams St”), click on the search button. If the address exists, a result will display.

 

3. MY BUSINESS IS TRYING TO OBTAIN A PERMIT, BUT OUR ADDRESS IS NOT LISTED IN THE PERMITTING DEPARTMENT BUSINESS LICENSE DATABASE, WHAT DO WE DO?

A: If you're a Tenant email: 1) a copy of your complete signed lease agreement , 2) completed GIS Addressing Request form, 3) Site Layout (must display suites, ex A, B or 110, 120 etc)

or

If you're an Owner email: 1) Signed Letter on Company Letterhead requesting address entry, 2) completed GIS Addressing Request form, 3) Site Layout (must display suites, ex A, B or 110, 120 etc)

 

4. HOW DO I UPDATE MY MAILING ADDRESS (FOR TAX BILLS)?

A: Mailing addresses are maintained by the Tax Commissioner Office. Visit their website, search for the property on the Tax Commissioners website and click on the link to update the mailing address.

 

5. I HAVE QUESTIONS ON HOW TO UPDATE THE MAILING ADDRESS (FOR TAX BILLS)?

A: Contact the Tax Commissioner Office and ask how to update the mailing address on the Tax Commissioners’ website.

 

6. MY ADDRESS DID NOT DISPLAY IN GOOGLE. HOW CAN MY ADDRESS EXIST IN GOOGLE? 

A: After receiving confirmation of property address by DeKalb GIS (excluding property in City of Atlanta, Decatur, or Dunwoody), visit Google Maps, click on Send Product Feedback. Then, click option for Wrong pin location or address, Missing place.

 

7. HOW CAN I FIND THE TAX DISTRICT OF A PROPERTY?

A: Search for the property by either address or parcel id within the GIS Parcel Viewer website. Click on the map, the parcel id, property address and tax district displays.

 

8. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, DECATUR OR DUNWOODY, HOW MAY I CHANGE MY ADDRESS?

A: Contact the City for approval. DeKalb GIS does not determine addressing assignments for properties within the Atlanta, Decatur or Dunwoody tax districts.

 

9. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, DECATUR OR DUNWOODY, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A LAND DISTURBANCE PROJECT (LDP) TO BUILD AN APARTMENT, CONDOMINIUM, OR A COMMERCIAL BUILDING?

A: Contact the City for approval. DeKalb GIS does not perform Land Disturbance Project (LDP) reviews for properties within the Atlanta, Decatur or Dunwoody tax districts.

 

10. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, DECATUR OR DUNWOODY, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A PLAT SO THAT PROPERTY BOUNDARIES CAN BE UPDATED?

A: Contact the City for approval. DeKalb GIS does not perform plat reviews for properties within the Atlanta, Decatur or Dunwoody tax districts.

 

11. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF ATLANTA, DECATUR OR DUNWOODY, HOW MAY I FIND THE STATUS OF MY LDP OR PLAT REVIEW?

A: Contact the City’s Planning department.

 

12. HOW MAY I VIEW THE CHECKLISTS FOR LAND DEVELOPMENT (LDPS), FINAL PLATS, REVISIONS, LOT DIVISIONS, BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENTS, COMBINATIONS? 

A: Visit ePermitting | DeKalb County GA

 

13. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF AVONDALE ESTATES, BROOKHAVEN, CHAMBLEE, CLARKSTON, DORAVILLE, LITHONIA, PINE LAKE, REDAN, STONE MOUNTAIN, STONECREST OR TUCKER, HOW MAY I CHANGE MY ADDRESS? 

A: Email GIS Addressing Coordinator the completed GIS Addressing Request Form

 

14. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF AVONDALE ESTATES, BROOKHAVEN, CHAMBLEE, CLARKSTON, DORAVILLE, LITHONIA, PINE LAKE, REDAN, STONE MOUNTAIN, STONECREST OR TUCKER, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A LAND DISTURBANCE PROJECT (LDP) TO BUILD AN APARTMENT, CONDOMINIUM, OR A COMMERCIAL BUILDING?

A: Contact the City and ask for a routing slip. Submit routing slip and City Services application to DeKalb Land Development online. If routing slip indicates for DeKalb GIS to complete the review, LDP project will be submitted to DeKalb GIS via ProjectDox system.

 

15. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF AVONDALE ESTATES, BROOKHAVEN, CHAMBLEE, CLARKSTON, DORAVILLE, LITHONIA, PINE LAKE, REDAN, STONE MOUNTAIN, STONECREST OR TUCKER, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A PLAT SO THAT PROPERTY BOUNDARIES CAN BE UPDATED? 

A: Contact the City and ask for a routing slip. Submit routing slip and City Services application to DeKalb Land Development online. If routing slip indicates for DeKalb GIS to complete the review, LDP project will be submitted to DeKalb GIS via ProjectDox system.

 

16. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN THE CITY OF AVONDALE ESTATES, BROOKHAVEN, CHAMBLEE, CLARKSTON, DORAVILLE, LITHONIA, PINE LAKE, REDAN, STONE MOUNTAIN, STONECREST OR TUCKER, HOW MAY I FIND THE STATUS OF MY LDP OR PLAT REVIEW?

A: Contact the Call Center 404-371-2155 select Option 3.

 

17. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN UINCORPORATED DEKALB, HOW MAY I CHANGE MY ADDRESS?

A: Email GIS Addressing Coordinator the completed GIS Addressing Request Form

 

18. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN UNINCORPORATED DEKALB, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A LAND DISTURBANCE PROJECT (LDP) TO BUILD AN APARTMENT, CONDOMINIUM, OR A COMMERCIAL BUILDING? 

A: Submit LDP application to DeKalb Land Development online. Land Development will route the LDP review to DeKalb GIS via the ProjectDox system.

 

19. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN UNINCORPORATED DEKALB, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A LOT DIVISION, BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT OR COMBNIATION PLAT SO THAT PROPERTY BOUNDARIES CAN BE UPDATED?

A: Submit LOT DIVISION APPLICATION FOR EITHER A LOT DIVISION, BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT OR COMBINATION application to DeKalb Land Development online. Land Development will route the LOT DIVISION, BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT OR COMBINATION review to DeKalb GIS via the ProjectDox system.

 

20. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN UNINCORPORATED DEKALB, HOW MAY I SEEK APPROVAL FOR A SUBDIVISION (3 OR MORE PARCELS) FINAL PLAT SO THAT PROPERTY BOUNDARIES CAN BE UPDATED?

A: Submit a SKETCH PLAT application, LAND DISTURBANCE PROJECT (LDP) application and a FINAL PLAT application to DeKalb County via the ProjectDox system. After meeting the prescreening requirements, Planning & Sustainability will forward the SKETCH PLAT review to DeKalb GIS and additional County departments via the ProjectDox system. After approval of the SKETCH PLAT review, applicant should submit the LDP review to DeKalb Land Development via the ProjectDox system. After meeting the prescreening requirements, Land Development will forward the LDP review to DeKalb GIS and additional County Departments via the ProjectDox system. After approval of the LDP review, applicant should submit the Final plat review to DeKalb Land Development via the ProjectDox system. After meeting the prescreening requirements, Land Development will forward the FINAL plat review to DeKalb GIS and additional County Departments via the ProjectDox system. Following the approval of the SKETCH PLAT, LDP, and FINAL plat review, the approved FINAL plat must be recorded and applicant should email recorded plat to the GIS Department to request mapping of subdivision.

 

21. MY PROPERTY IS LOCATED WITHIN UNINCORPORATED DEKALB, HOW MAY I FIND THE STATUS OF MY LDP OR PLAT REVIEW?

A: Visit the Permit and Application Tracker App, enter the application number (AP #), street address or parcel id to search for the status of the LDP or plat review. OR Contact the Call Center 404-371-2155 select Option 3.

 

22. DO I COME TO YOUR OFFICE FOR CREATING A SUBDIVISION, TOWNHOME OR CONDOMINIUM COMMUNITY (3 OR MORE LOTS) WITHIN UNINCORPORATED DEKALB?

A: No, submit FINAL plat application to DeKalb Land Development online via ProjectDox. For a checklist, visit ePermitting | DeKalb County GA . After meeting the prescreening requirements, Land Development will route the review to DeKalb GIS.

 

23. A PORTION OF MY RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY IS IN ANOTHER MUNICIPALITY. CAN I COME TO YOUR OFFICE TO COMBINE THEM INTO ONE PROPERTYY?

A: No, property in a municipality cannot be combined with property in unincorporated DeKalb. If a portion of your property is also located within a municipality, request to annex into the municipality. Once the parcels display the same municipality (excluding Atlanta, Decatur or Dunwoody), matching ownership and zoning, Contact the City and ask for a routing slip. Submit routing slip and City Services application to DeKalb Land Development online. If the routing slip indicates for DeKalb GIS to complete the review, Land Development will route city services application to DeKalb GIS via ProjectDox system.

or

If a portion of your property is also located within a municipality, deannex the property into Unincorporated DeKalb Once the parcels display the same Unincorporated tax district, ownership and zoning, submit the combination review to Land Development via ProjectDox.

 

24. AS THE PROPERTY OWNER, HOW CAN I AUTHORIZE FOR SOMEONE ELSE (I.E. LAND SURVEYOR, ENGINEER, LAWYER, ETC.) TO ACT ON MY BEHALF IN SUBMITTING A GIS MAPPING FORM FOR A LOT DIVISION, BOUNDARY ADJUSTMENT OR COMBINATION REQUEST ? 

A: Property owners must complete the GIS Agent Authorization Form, and provide the completed GIS Agent Authorization form to the applicant. Applicant submits the completed agent authorization form and plat review sheets via the ProjectDox system.

 

 

25. IF I AM IN THE PROCESS OF UPDATING LDP OR PLAT REVIEWS, DO I NEED TO BRING MY CORRECTIONS TO YOUR OFFICE? 

A: No, submit online to Land Development via ProjectDox. Then Land Development routes the updated sheets to the departments. If assigned to GIS, GIS will complete the review via ProjectDox.
