On November 4, 2008, with the passage of Senate Bill 52, DeKalb County, Georgia made history when the Board of Commissioners and the Chief Executive Officer appointed its first Certified County Clerk Barbara H. Sanders, CCC on January 6, 2009. With the passing of Senate Bill 52, Presiding Officer Mereda Davis Johnson now presides over all Board of Commissioners' regularly scheduled meetings.
This Bill also gives the Presiding Officer the following additional duties: Convenes Committee of the Whole Meetings and appoints the chairpersons and members of the Standing Committees, which begins the shift back to a true balance of power.
