In November 2020, the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) adopted a Procurement Policy for ENERGY STAR® Certified Products and only purchase ENERGY STAR® rated technology equipment and appliances. As of 2022, DeKalb County, GA joins the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA's) ENERGY STAR program as a partner and makes a fundamental commitment to protecting the environment through the continuous improvement of the energy performance of our facilities and operations. | Within unincorporated (outside city limits) DeKalb County, there are a total of 29,603 county-owned High Intensity Discharge (HID) streetlights. Of that total, 27,326 HID streetlights, or approximately 92 percent, have already been retrofitted to light-emitting diode (LED) streetlights, leaving a remaining 2,277 county-owned HID to be retrofitted. DarkSky International | Protecting the night skies for present and future generations | Turning the lights out when an area is not in use is an easy and effective way to save energy and money. DeKalb County is switching on energy savings with “Lights Out/Power Down.” This Executive Order was issued in 2009 to save energy by establishing a procedure that governs employee use of all non-emergency lighting and electronics in county facilities.
