DeKalb County, Partners Work to Help Residents Displaced by Apartment Fire

DECATUR, GA. – DeKalb County officials, along with the American Red Cross and other partners, are working to address the housing needs of 60 to 70 residents displaced by an overnight apartment fire Nov. 1.
The fire at Ashford Gardens, located on Plaster Road in Chamblee, destroyed approximately two dozen unit. No one was injured in the fire which began around 2:30 a.m. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
“DeKalb County stands ready to assist these citizens in their time of need by partnering with the American Red Cross,” said DeKalb Interim CEO Lee May.
DeKalb County is working with the American Red Cross to set up a temporary shelter at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Brookhaven. DeKalb County personnel transported fire victims to the church where they will receive meals and shelter while caseworkers address their long-term housing needs.
Among the collaborative partners are DeKalb County Fire Rescue, Brookhaven Police Department, Chamblee Police Department, DeKalb County Community Development and DeKalb Emergency Management Agency and DeKalb County Police Department.
