Nikisha "Niki" L. McDonald (she/her) is the Supervising County Attorney of the Law Department’s Public Safety Group. She provides legal counsel to the Sheriff’s Office, Police Department, Fire and Rescue Department, and other public safety entities. Her practice includes contract review, drafting legal opinions, ordinances, and resolutions, defending lawsuits involving allegations of excessive force and violations of constitutional rights, and oral advocacy in state and federal courts as well as the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Ms. McDonald also provides advice, assistance, and training to county departments regarding compliance with the Georgia Open Records Act.
Prior to joining the law department, Ms. McDonald served as staff attorney to former State Court Judge Penny Brown Reynolds. She later transitioned to the Fulton County’s Attorney Office where she worked on the public safety team and she was also an associate at Thomas, Kennedy, Sampson and Tompkins, LLP where she specialized in premises liability and medical malpractice. Ms. McDonald is a native of DeKalb County and earned her J.D. from Mercer University School of Law in 2003. Prior to law school, she earned her B.A. in Political Science with honors from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. When she is not practicing law, Ms. McDonald is very active in her church and community and enjoys spending time with her family.
