Since 1997, PDK has offered voluntary relocation assistance to almost 200 residents that live in areas that experience high levels of noise from PDK operations. These homes were identified in a noise compatibility study that the airport completed in 1996. The study was conducted with a spirit of cooperation with the neighborhoods surrounding PDK and attempts to remedy current and future noise impacts affecting our citizens.
The airport purchases these homes with grants provided by the Federal Aviation Administration. The airport must contribute 10% of the total grant amount. No DeKalb County tax dollars are used to acquire these properties.
After purchasing all of the eligible homes that choose to participate, PDK is charged by the FAA to insure that this land does not become residential again. What happens to the land will be decided by the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners and the City of Chamblee; however, none of this land will be used to expand PDK runways or taxiways.
