DeKalb Cooperative Extension Announces Garden Classes

DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host garden workshops. The classes are listed below. 

 

Composting With Worms: October 26 at 3 p.m. 

Learn how to use food scraps to generate compost with worms. Using a worm bin in your home is a great way to limit food waste while generating nutrient-rich organic matter for your garden. Each participant will learn about worms, how to care for them and get to construct and take home a worm composting bin. This workshop requires pre-registration and costs $15. It will be at E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm.

Home Beekeeping Series: October 8, 15 and 22 at 4 p.m. 

This three-class series on beekeeping is taught by the President of the Metro Atlanta Beekeepers Association, Peter Helfrich. Each class will cover a different topic of beekeeping. Light refreshments provided. Topics covered are hive equipment and setting up your apiary, honeybee biology and nutrition, and pest and diseases, a year in the apiary. Each class costs $5. Classes will be at Mason Mill Recreation Center.
