Commissioner Robert Patrick is excited to announce two incredible community events happening on Sunday, September 1, 2024. These events are designed to bring the community together for a day of fitness, fun, and support for important local causes. The inaugural District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run will kick off the day at Mercer University, followed by Labor Day Live! at Pleasantdale Park in the afternoon.

Event 1: District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run
Start your day with the District 1 Labor Day 5K Fur Run, a benefit race to support the DeKalb County Animal Services. This event will be held at Mercer University, located at 2930 Flowers Rd. S, Atlanta, GA 30341. Festivities begin at 7:30 a.m. with an opening ceremony, followed by an instructor-led warm-up session before the race starts.

The 5K Fur Run provides a unique opportunity for community members to come together, enjoy a run or walk, and make a positive impact on the lives of animals in need. Participants are welcome to bring their pets, though it is not a requirement to join in the race. All proceeds from the event will go directly to DeKalb County Animal Services, helping them provide care and find loving homes for abandoned and homeless pets.

The event will conclude with an awards ceremony recognizing the top three finishers. Race participants will also receive a 10% discount at Big Peach Running Company's Decatur location, a race t-shirt, and a finisher's medal.
