DeKalb County Voter Registration and Elections (DeKalb VRE) is urging voters to prepare to vote in the upcoming General Election.

While advance voting begins in October, there are several important actions voters can take now to ensure they are ready to vote.

Here’s some helpful tips for DeKalb County voters:

  1. If you haven’t already, register to vote at https://mvp.sos.ga.gov/s/. The voter registration deadline is Monday, Oct. 7.
  2. Double-check your voter status to ensure you are “active”: www.mvp.sos.ga.gov/MVP/mvp.do. While voters listed as “inactive” can still cast a ballot this election, it’s easy to update your status to “active” online or by contacting DeKalb VRE at 404-298-4020.
  3. Make a plan to vote. Advance voting begins Oct.15 and Election Day is Nov. 5.
  4. If you’re planning on voting absentee and wish to use a drop box at select advance voting locations, visit www.dekalbvotes.com for announcements on locations and hours.

“It’s important that all DeKalb voters know and verify their voter status and take action if they have not voted in several years,” said Keisha Smith, executive director of DeKalb VRE. “Registering to vote and verifying your voter status are simple and easy steps, but it’s important to double check to ensure a smooth voting experience on Election Day. Be mindful that an inactive status does not prohibit voters from casting a ballot. However, we strongly encourage each active and eligible voter to double check their voter status and Election Day precinct on the Georgia Secretary of State’s My Voter Page as soon as possible.”

Advance voting in DeKalb begins Tuesday, Oct.15 through Friday, Nov. 1, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday voting is available Oct. 19 and Oct. 26 from 9 a.m. – 7 p.m. and Sunday voting is available Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, from noon – 5 p.m.
