Commissioner Robert Patrick Recognizes Two Trailblazing Leaders in DeKalb County for Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month with his Trailblazer Award

Commissioner Robert Patrick celebrated two trailblazing individuals in DeKalb County by giving his Trailblazer Award to Charlene Fang, a current board member of the DeKalb County Board of Assessors and former chair and vice-chair of the board, and Judge Alvin T. Wong, Chief Judge of DeKalb County State Court, for their remarkable contributions to DeKalb County. He honored them with the District 1, 2024 Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month Trailblazer Award during the Board of Commissioners' regular business meeting on May 28, 2024.

Charlene Fang, recognized for her leadership in the banking industry and community service, embodies dedication to education and cultural preservation. 

Meanwhile, The Honorable Alvin T. Wong's pioneering work in the legal arena, marked by his role as the first Asian Pacific American judge in the Southeast and his recent appointment as Chief Judge, underscores his enduring commitment to justice and community welfare. 

Commissioner Patrick's initiative to honor impactful DeKalb residents with the Trailblazer Award signifies his inclusive approach towards recognizing exceptional leaders across all communities within his district and the county. This inaugural AAPI recognition reflects his commitment to highlighting outstanding individuals and fostering community connections. Commissioner Patrick plans to involve the public in the nomination process for future awards, ensuring broader community engagement and representation.
