Annual event explores life skills, communication, conflict resolution, and fosters positive male interactions through intense workshops spearheaded by male mentors and content experts.

Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in partnership with the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County and the DeKalb County School District, presents the 5th Annual Lock-in for Life event to foster male youth development for students ages 13-18.

The program provides middle and high schoolers with intense workshops, critical conversations, and positive male interactions, focusing on nonviolence, social skills and behaviors, mental health, and positive peer interactions.

The free event will be held on Dec. 15, 2023, from 6 p.m. to midnight, at Redan High School, 5247 Redan Rd., Stone Mountain, Ga. 30088. The Lock-in for Life features sessions facilitated by nonprofit leaders, legal experts, doctors, judges, attorneys, motivational speakers, and civic leaders for a night of fellowship, fun, and enrichment. Participants will enjoy celebrity guests, sports activities, music and raffle prizes, thought-provoking interactive panels, and dinner.

“This dynamic program was designed after taking a critical look at the needs of male students within our community,” Commissioner Cochran-Johnson said. “The program has made a huge difference in the lives of the young men who participate. The feedback from parents and children has been overwhelming because many young men simply need positive reinforcement and male role models to guide them into adulthood.”

The Lock-in for Life is designed to empower and enlighten youth males, while decreasing negative social, emotional, community, and societal impacts experienced in daily life. The program addresses gun violence, self-awareness and positivity, social and soft skills, civic responsibility, critical life skills, and conflict resolution.

Male youth are encouraged to attend, and pre-registration is required. Parents are encouraged to register their children by visiting https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/ev/reg/whwnjwe.
