Partnership to provide vaccinations and school supplies targeting the Latino Community

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is partnering with Plaza Fiesta on its annual Back-To-School event for the Latino Community. The event will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 4166 Buford Highway from noon to 4 p.m. The partnership continues the work needed in Latino and immigrant communities to provide support for students and their families in need of assistance in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.

Commissioner Cochran-Johnson will be sponsoring school supplies that will be distributed by the DeKalb County School District, as well as vaccinations in partnership with the STEED Society and CORE. The pediatric Pfizer Bivalent vaccine will be provided for children ages 5 and up. The vaccine will also be available for constituents ages 12 and up. An appointment is not needed, and walk-ups are welcomed.

“The partnership with the DeKalb County School District and the STEED Society are examples of key organizations coming together to serve DeKalb communities and assist Latino children and families,” said Commissioner Cochran-Johnson. “It takes a comprehensive, united effort to serve families across DeKalb County to ensure they are supported.”

Plaza Fiesta opened its doors in 2000, providing a unique and diverse cultural location for shopping and restaurants from Latin American countries, as well as events and cultural activities for families in DeKalb County and the surrounding metro Atlanta area.

The Back-To-School event is expected to draw approximately 20,000 people. For more information about the event, please call 404-982-9138.
