Commissioner Larry Johnson to Host 13th Annual Let’s Move DeKalb! Back to School Expo

Event is in partnership with C.H.O.I.C.E.S.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson and the Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) extends their partnership to help parents get a healthy jumpstart on preparing for their children to go back to school. 

The expo will take place Saturday, July 29, at 10 a.m at the Intergenerational Center at Exchange Park, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30034. 

During the expo, families will receive free school supplies, in addition to access to the mobile food pantry, thanks to partners like the Atlanta Community Food Bank. The mobile food pantry will allow families to take home fresh produce and pantry staple items. Known for its continued efforts to fight childhood obesity, C.H.O.I.C.E.S. will also provide nutrition education to help parents make healthier food choices for their families in the upcoming school year.

DeKalb Back-to-School Expo, in partnership with C.H.O.I.C.E.S.,” said Commissioner Johnson. “Our goal is to continue to bring awareness of this critical issue and significantly reduce the presence of childhood obesity in our communities. Each year is an exciting time to deliver this event and we know that 2023 will be no different."

“C.H.O.I.C.E.S. is committed to reversing the trend of childhood obesity and reducing food insecurity with a special focus on families in need,” said Vanetta Keyes, founder and executive director of C.H.O.I.C.E.S. “We teach families healthy lifestyle maintenance through cooking classes and provide programs with a school based curriculum designed for children of all ages. It is an honor to work with Commissioner Larry Johnson again this year.”

The Let's Move! Dekalb Back-to-School Expo is free and open to the public. Residents can pre-register their family to attend the expo at 2023 Let's Move DeKalb.
