DeKalb to Honor Two Public Servants during MLK Celebration

Dr. Thomas L. Coleman and Santiago Marquez to be recognized

Two local public servants will be recognized for their humanitarian work on Friday, Jan. 13, during DeKalb County’s annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration program.

The program, titled “Cultivating a Beloved Community,” will be Friday, Jan. 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., in the Maloof Auditorium, 1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur.

Dr. Thomas L. Coleman, a board member of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice, and Santiago Marquez, CEO of the Latin American Association, will be honored with the Nathaniel Mosby Humanitarian Award, which celebrates the recipients’ commitment to tireless community service and outstanding dedication to being an agent for positive change.

The King Day charge will be delivered by Daniel Blackman, regional administrator for U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Special musical guests will be JFly of How Big Is Your Dream?! Foundation.

The 2023 tribute marks the 39th consecutive year DeKalb will host the employee-planned event honoring the life and legacy of Dr. King.
