DECATUR, GA. - The DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department and the American Red Cross are collaborating to install approximately 500 smoke and carbon monoxide alarms. The alarms were donated by Operation Save a Life, a partnership between Kidde smoke alarms and ABC television. This public service event is designed to educate homeowners on the dangers of fire and carbon monoxide poisoning. Novelis, Starbucks and the Kind Corporation are also supporting the event.

The area selected has around 500 single-family homes with some apartments and has a higher-than-average occurrence of house fires.

8:00 a.m.: Event leaders arrive and set up
8:30 a.m.: Volunteers arrive and check-in. Teams organized.
8:45 a.m. to 9:15 a.m.: Training on how to install alarms
9:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.: Start canvassing neighborhoods
12:30 to 1:30 pm: Return supplies and lunch served
