DECATUR, Ga – DeKalb County Extension has launched the third season of Fresh on DeK, DeKalb County’s Mobile Farmers Market, which travels throughout the county offering fresh regionally-grown fruits and vegetables for sale.
The vision of Fresh on DeK is to improve the health of the community, the viability of local produce and to preserve the environment for future generations. To accomplish this, Fresh on DeK meets community members where they are and relieves food access barriers by providing fresh produce paired with nutrition education programming around DeKalb County. Research continues to support the correlation between poor health and food insecurity, the disproportionate effect this relationship has on low-income communities and the need to address the issue of locations lacking access.
The market accepts EBT, credit cards, checks and cash. For a detailed listing of locations in DeKalb County, visit www.dekalbmobilemarket.com.
In addition to nutrition education, DeKalb County Extension’s programming focuses on horticulture, the environment, communities, youth and families. It is through this unbiased, research-based education that the extension aims to improve the quality of life for citizens in DeKalb County.
